How to choose a toothbrush?
To see the effect of brushing your teeth, you must use the brush that is suitable for you. When choosing a brush, pay attention not to the manufacturer’s brand, but to the individual performance of the models. A good brush should be made of synthetic fibers and of suitable stiffness.
If you have sensitive, easily injured gums, then it is better to choose a soft brush, if not, a medium or hard brush. The size of the brush head and its handle should be suitable for your mouth. The brush should be able to penetrate into hard-to-reach places without causing you any inconvenience.
Fine-bristled brushes clean the space between teeth well. You can also pay attention to the brushes with a special brush for cleaning the tongue. But in general, it is not the brand or the price of the toothbrush that matters much more, but the amount of time you spend brushing your teeth and the thoroughness of the procedure.
How to choose a toothpaste?
There are a large number of dental and oral cavity cleaners on the market today. Most dentifrice pastes have a good prophylactic effect, i.e. not only cleanse, but also prevent the appearance of caries. A good effect can be expected from a paste of any price category, provided that it is used regularly at least 2 times a day.
But it is better to buy toothpaste from pharmacies, where all toothpastes are certified for clinical trials. The dentist will best of all help you choose the toothpaste for the solution of your problems.
What else can you use for cleansing and prevention?
Dental floss. In addition to cleaning with toothpaste and a brush, dentists recommend using dental floss. Dental floss, or as it is also called – flos, guarantees complete cleansing of all hard-to-reach areas of the oral cavity: interdental and gingival space. I must say that most people underestimate dental floss, and when food pieces get into hard-to-reach places, they often use a toothpick.
This is not the right approach at all. Inappropriate use of a toothpick can injure the tooth and gums. Bacteria can enter the damaged area and cause disease. Dental floss, however, is easy to use and safe, although it does require skill.
You need to floss at least once a day: preferably before bedtime, after cleaning your mouth with a brush. A thread, measuring 30-40 centimeters, is wound around the fingers.
Firmly pressing the thread to the surface of the tooth, you need to pass it back and forth several times. To cleanse each tooth, you need to use new floss. If you train yourself to floss on a daily basis, your next appointment with your dentist is likely to be much shorter. Mouthwash.
Mouth rinses also have a positive effect. They can be used as a complementary remedy after brushing your teeth in the morning and evening, or as an intermediate cleansing agent – used after meals.
When choosing a rinse aid, pay attention to the composition. If it contains antiseptics (chlorhexidine, triclosan, benzydamine and others), then it cannot be used constantly, only as a preventive course in 2-3 weeks for gum disease or other diseases on the recommendation of a dentist.
Long-term use of rinses with antiseptics or antibiotics can cause dry mouth and manifestations of dysbiosis. If the rinse contains aminofluoride or sodium fluoride and does not contain alcohol, then such a product can be used continuously without damaging the microflora of the oral cavity.
How to brush your teeth?
You need to brush your teeth at least twice a day. First, we use dental floss – we remove food debris from hard-to-reach places. Next, we move on to brushing with a toothbrush for at least two to three minutes. The movements of the brush should not be very fast: it is necessary to gently clean each tooth with forward and upward movements.
The cheek surfaces of the jaw should be cleaned with sweeping movements. Don’t forget about the tongue and gums as well. At the end, you can use a special mouthwash or just rinse your mouth well with water.
